Singles Date tomorrow! Baking cookies in the morning and chick flicks for the rest of the day. Sleeping away valentines last year was pretty chill. But getting sick from the percocet, being in a bulky sling, and not being able to move kinda sucked. (my shoulder surgery was the day before)
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting
himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a
young girl — who may have been his jailor's daughter — who visited him during
his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter,
which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today.
Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly
emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic
figure.
Fun Valentines Day Facts:
- In the Middle Ages, there was a belief that the first unmarried person of the opposite sex you met on the morning of St. Valentine's Day would become your spouse.
- 73% of Valentine Day flowers are bought by men, whereas women buy only 23% of Valentine flowers.
- Around 3% of pet owners prefer to give Valentine gifts to their pets, as they are more grateful than humans!
- "Cupid" shoots people and it rhymes with "Stupid"
- He is also the son of the goddess Venus
- People had a belief that if a robin flies above an unmarried woman's head, then it is likely that her wedding knots would get tied with a sailor
- People have heard about the Valentine’s Day Massacre. It was where Al Capone had men from a rival Alcohol smuggling gang gunned down with machine guns at close range. The part that the history books don’t tell is that the killing was a mercy killing motivated out of love, not greed. You see all these men would have eventually died from liver failure from all the booze. This was a much less painful way for them to go.
